SIENA, 5 DECEMBER 2025
VII EUROPEAN FORUM ON FOOD QUALITY

In collaboration with:

An opportunity to share experiences and chart new paths for Geographical Indications

The 7th Qualivita Forum, scheduled to take place in Siena in December 2025, will be a strategic opportunity to take stock of the evolution of the Geographical Indications (GI) system and outline future perspectives, one year after the entry into force of EU Regulation 2024/1143. The event, organized by the Qualivita Foundation in collaboration with oriGIn, oriGIn EU, Origin Italia, oriGIn France, and Origen España, will offer an up-to-date framework to address the sector’s new challenges, thanks to contributions from experts, institutions, protection Consortia, and representatives of the quality agri-food sector.

Location

The 7th Forum will be held in Siena, the city where the Qualivita Foundation was founded and where it is still based. The event is part of the celebrations for the Foundation’s 25th anniversary and will take place in the prestigious setting of the Santa Maria della Scala Museum Complex, overlooking Piazza del Duomo.

The European debate on quality

Since 2004, the European Forum on Food Quality, promoted by the Qualivita Foundation, has been one of the leading international platforms for dialogue on the Geographical Indications (GI) system in Europe. Over the years, the Forum has fostered ongoing discussions among institutions, producers, protection Consortia, and researchers, contributing to the evolution of EU legislation and to building active cooperation between Italy, France, and Spain — the three leading countries of the PDO and PGI agri-food model. The Forum has made it possible to:

  • consolidate new legislative proposals
  • enhance the experiences of protection Consortia
  • strengthen cooperation between Member States
  • collect strategic insights for the development of the sector

CONTRIBUTE TO THE GREEN PAPER ON THE FUTURE OF GEOGRAPHICAL INDICATIONS

The 7th Qualivita Forum will also be the occasion to present and deliver to the institutions the “Green Paper on the Future of Geographical Indications,” a strategic document prepared by the Qualivita Foundation together with numerous partners. The goal is to provide a concrete tool to support the GI system in facing the challenges introduced by the new EU Regulation 2024/1143. Resulting from the contributions of experts and sector stakeholders, the Green Paper will propose a shared vision on key topics related to sustainability, innovation, and internationalization, offering the European Commission useful guidance for the definition of the Action Plan on GIs.

Sector representatives can actively participate in drafting the volume by contributing reflections and proposals through the completion of a dedicated questionnaire available online.
