PDO Preview

PDO Preview is an initiative realised by the Qualivita Foundation for the Ministry of Agriculture Food and Forestry Policies, with the aim of providing direct knowledge of the new Italian agri-food products that are added each year to the list of PDOs, PGIs and TSGs already registered by the European Union. The start-up of a designation is a very delicate phase for companies in the supply chain, both for the correct application of the product specification and control plans, and for all aspects of marketing; in order to give concrete support during this period, PDO Preview offers operators several occasions to talk with those in distribution and the press, with the aim of implementing an effective marketing and promotion strategy. For each of these occasions, the Foundation also produces the PDO Preview Compendiums (which are part of the Qualivita Notebook series), which contain the technical-economic and descriptive fact sheets of each product that is presented. An effective dissemination tool as well as an in-depth editorial support for of all those involved.

The sixth edition of PDO Preview took place at the Salone Internazionale del Gusto in Turin on October 23rd 2014, in the talk show area of the Ministry of Agriculture Food and Forestry Policies. The initiative, created by the Qualivita Foundation in order to valorize the start-up of Italian agri-food designations that obtain the European PDO, PGI and TSG recognition, involved journalists and buyers from all over the world. The Salone Internazionale del Gusto was the ideal location for operators of the new Italian PDOs and PGIs to talk with representatives of the press and the distribution sector, enabling them to implement an effective marketing and promotion strategy during the delicate phase of starting-up a new designation; a phase in which companies in the supply chain have to face the correct application of the product specification and control plans, and all aspects of marketing, for the very first time. The event was attended by representatives of organisations that received token plaques for their efforts during the registration process of the Geographical Indication, presented by Maurizio Martina, the Minister of Agricultural Policies.

The following new registrations were presented at the event:
Torrone di Bagnara PGI (Reggio Calabria)
